It is common that you’ll see signs that say “No Flying Drones” in areas across the world but drones for HVAC have a unique use. Although they have restrictions in order to legally fly, the use of drones for HVAC will gather important information without having to climb heights. A drone will also allow the job to be complete in a more timely manner. Instead of squeezing into small spaces or needing to create scaffolding to reach extreme heights.

Companies are researching and looking into adding drones into their service but the Federal Aviation Administration has rules and regulations set in place to fly a drone. In order to fly a drone for work or business you have to pass the requirements for the pilot, aircraft and operating rules.

By eliminating man hours of setting up a scaffold and climbing into tight spaces, the cost of maintenance goes down. Less time and money is spent by not having the need for large, time-consuming, equipment. Recorded footage the drone captures is also helpful to show the client what is wrong or to consult with another contractor.

Requirements

• Pilot:
  Over 16 years of age
  Pass initial aeronautical knowledge test
  Vetted by Transportation Safety Administration
• Aircraft:
  Less than 55lbs.
  Must be registered
• Operating:
  Class G airspace
  Keep the aircraft in sight
  Fly under 400 feet
  Must fly during the day
  Fly at or below 100 mph
  Yield right of way to manned aircraft
  Do NOT fly over people
  Do NOT fly from a moving vehicle

After getting a compatible drone registered, the possibilities of using a drone during HVAC service are endless. There are many creative ways that would enhance service by adding a drone.
